Critical Facilities Engineer
Dubai / Abu Dhabi. Full Time – 5+ years of Critical Facilities Engineering Operations & Management experience and must have data center, large scale crypto mining farm, or similar critical power systems experience.
Note: This position requires shift and on-call coverage supporting 24/7 operations.
Opportunity
We are looking for a Critical Facilities Engineer who takes responsibility for the infrastructure behind uninterrupted operations.
You will operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and improve the mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and life safety systems supporting our data center environment. Your work will help keep critical power dependable, cooling effective, equipment maintained, and people safe.
This is a hands-on role for someone with strong technical foundations, sound judgment, and the initiative to see problems through to resolution. You should be comfortable working independently, anticipating risks, and proposing practical improvements while following approved procedures and escalation requirements.
What you will own
- Critical power reliability. Operate and maintain electrical infrastructure, including transformers, switchgear, UPS systems, batteries, generators, transfer switches, and power distribution. Understand redundancy, equipment dependencies, and the impact of maintenance on live operations.
- Cooling and mechanical performance. Maintain HVAC, chillers, pumps, heat exchangers, piping, plumbing, and associated controls. Support liquid cooling infrastructure, including coolant distribution units, circulation loops, water quality, and leak detection.
- Preventive and corrective maintenance. Plan and execute inspections, servicing, fault diagnosis, and repairs. Identify deteriorating equipment conditions, prioritize corrective actions, and verify that completed work restores equipment to the required operating condition.
- Monitoring and incident response. Use building management, electrical monitoring, and data center infrastructure management systems to track conditions and investigate alarms. Respond calmly to incidents, communicate risks promptly, and support root cause investigations and lasting corrective actions.
- Projects and operational readiness. Support critical power installations, equipment replacements, capacity expansions, commissioning, and integrated systems testing. Review drawings, manuals, test results, and handover documents to confirm readiness for safe operation.
- Safety and compliance. Apply strong Health, Safety and Environment practices, including risk assessments, permit-to-work controls, lockout/tagout, and contractor oversight. Maintain fire detection, suppression, and life safety readiness, support inspections and audits, and stop or escalate unsafe work.
- Records and reporting. Keep accurate equipment condition logs, asset registers, maintenance histories, warranty records, service manuals, drawings, and spare parts information. Prepare clear shift handovers, incident reports, maintenance summaries, and equipment health reports.
- Team coordination and improvement. Coordinate with operations teams, contractors, and equipment manufacturers. Identify recurring failures, reliability risks, and opportunities to improve energy use, water use, maintainability, and working practices through approved changes.
What you will bring
- An engineering degree or technical diploma in Electrical, Mechanical, Electromechanical Engineering, or a related discipline—or equivalent practical experience.
- At least 5 years of relevant experience in 24/7 critical facilities, including substantial hands-on data center experience and a strong foundation in critical power projects and operations.
- Practical experience with liquid-cooled data centers, HVAC, plumbing, and the interaction between electrical and mechanical infrastructure.
- Experience supporting changing power and thermal demands across different operating conditions and workloads, such as AI training, inference, GPU computing, high-performance computing, or Bitcoin mining.
- Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to interpret electrical single-line diagrams, mechanical schematics, piping and instrumentation diagrams, and manufacturer documentation.
- Solid working knowledge of HSE requirements, applicable local regulations, electrical and fire safety requirements, and compliance documentation.
- Experience using maintenance management systems, monitoring platforms, and reporting tools, with disciplined record keeping and clear written communication.
- Availability to participate in the site’s shift, weekend, and emergency on-call arrangements.
Additional strengths: Commissioning and integrated testing experience, relevant technical or safety certifications, and examples of improvements you have delivered in a live critical environment.
How you work matters
You take ownership. You follow through, close outstanding actions, and verify results.
You work independently. You organize priorities and act within your competence and authorization, recognizing when specialist support or escalation is needed.
You solve thoughtfully. You investigate causes, question assumptions, and propose workable solutions. You validate changes before introducing them into a live environment.
You care about people. You treat coworkers, contractors, and team members with empathy and respect. You share knowledge, support junior colleagues, and encourage people to raise concerns.
You keep improving. You notice small issues early and turn lessons from daily operations into safer, more reliable ways of working.
